Dracula Returns, Party tonight at Kappa Alpha, We Come in Peace, and The Spaceman Shot

On this day in 1476, Vlad III Dracula (aka Vlad the Impaler or just Dracula) defeats Basarab Laiota with the help of Stephen the Great (Stefan the Great and Holy) and Stephen V Bathory to become the ruler of his homeland Wallachia for the third time.

It was to be a short lived rein, for two months later he would be assassinated. While he would remain a hero in many countries for his defense of Christianity in Eastern Europe, Dracula's name would be immortalized as the main character of Bram Stoker's vampire novel "Dracula".

On this day in 1825, the first college social fraternity Kappa Alpha Society, would open at Union College in Schenectady, New York.

On this day in 1977, an entity known only as 'Vrillon', would take over the audio signal of Britain's Southern Television station during it's nightly news broadcast. Claiming to be the representative of the 'Ashtar Galactic Command', Vrillon would broadcast a message warning those who lived on Earth that "All your weapons of evil must be destroyed" and "You have but a short time to learn to live together in peace."

When the message ended, normal programming could again be heard on the station (a Looney Tunes cartoon was just finishing up).
